Days 26-28
Okay, so I haven’t blogged in a while so I’ll just push the whole weekend together into one post.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 1
Friday was the 50s Soriee. After diner Jill and I hung out at Michaela’s room and pre-partied, made fun of people who are annoying (Qu’est-ce que tu fais? HAHAHA) and I drew on Michaela (she asked me to, don’t worry
) The actual soriee was pretty boring, so we went to the different res parties instead.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 2
I went canoeing at 10am. That was fun. Then I came back and met up with Jill and Michaela again. Later on M & I fell asleep on the grass outside the residences after supper. Then I heard some very familier, very ENGLISH music. Some girl had put on ‘What Is Love’ by the Haddaways and was pumping it through her iPod speakers and started to dance to it. There were about 4 profs/animateurs standing outside one of the residences. They just looked at each other and were like ‘WTF??’ and the chick got an advertissment. She was either really dumb or did it on purpose. Which is dumb.
After that incident we went to the Café Bric-a-Brac and played tile Rummy with a girl from M’s res, and then went back to her res to play some more cards and pig out on chips. J & M went to the soriees (there were two) while I went to bed, because the Haute-Mer was at 8am the next morning.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 3 (aka today)
Whale-watching at 8am. It was really cold out on the ocean, but I did see some whales and seals. I didn’t get any pictures of the whales because they move too goddamn fast, but I did get a video and some pictures of the seals. Then I fell asleep on the boat (the cabin was nice and warm). I was so hungry when we left that the whole time I had a stomachache because I needed food in my belly. So when I got to the cafeteria I gobbled down some food. Then I went to the labo, then here.
My weekend was very entertaining.
5 days left!

Day 13 (address update too!!)
No whales
It was too foggy to go. I was really disapointed but instead of moping around me and Jill “regarded Le Fantom de l’Opera dans mon chambre” (watched The Phantom of the Opera in my room)
I am currently in the blistering hot computer lab typing this on my glorious MacBook instead of those freaky deaky French keyboards.
I’ve already been here for two weeks!! Two weeks ago today I was…. um….. getting ready to leave, I guess. I don’t actually remember what I did that last day at home. I’ll have to check my journal. I think I went to Kindersley with Donna, perhaps. Anyway, not important
What IS important is that I am having a wonderful time and meeting new people all the time. But it’s weird, because we don’t really know each other. We can’t just sit and talk about random stuff because most of us are Debutant 1 and can barely string together a sentence (My sentences have horrible grammar and I die a little inside every time I butcher this beautiful language.)
Like Jill said (she was being very philosophical today), this whole experience is like a steep hill. We started at the bottom, and now we’re almost at the top. The rest will be downhill. Of course, I took it literally at first because we were on our way to lunch, and the cafeteria is on top of a slope. So it took me a minute to understand what she was talking about.
Tonight is the Lousiana themed party…. I am tried (mainly because the computer lab is so hot I’m falling asleep) but I’ll go for a little bit anyway. I wish I was a better dancer. For someone who kicks ass at music, I can’t dance at all.
Speaking of kicking ass at music, I uploaded my video from the talent show on my photo site (dropshots.com/lauriemarie) so if you are interested, and I’m sure you are!, you should watch it. I haven’t watched it yet. I’ve been way way too scared.
Tomorrow is Sunday!! Which means another lazy day. I might watch another movie (I brought Romeo + Juliet but decided that was dumb because I can barely understand it in English, let alone in French). So I guess that means I am watching Roman Holiday.
Oh, and today I washed clothes for the first time in my life. I had to get a girl to help me because I was a little lost at first (turns out the machine just wouldn’t take my money). And I didn’t even screw up sorting- everything came out the right colour. So now my clothes don’t reek, I have underwear, and best of all, I feel very independent. Don’t mock me for not knowing how to wash clothes. Mom was very reluctant to teach me. I think it’s because of the independence thing.
PS In other news, I got my official transcript results via Mom. My lowest was Math C30 (86%) while my highest was History 30 (97%). My overall official average for my last semester of high school was 91.66 which is pretty wicked if I do say so. AND! My Grant MacEwan registration stuff came, so Mom is gonan ExpressPost that ASAP. WOOT!
Kisses and Hugs!
PPS If you are going to mail me something, make sure you add Bozo 3 after my name, so they don’t have to figure out what residence I’m from.

Day 12 (WAHH?!)
I can’t believe I’ve been here for 12 days already!! I am having a way better time today. After the talent show I feel like I can do anything and that I can defiantly survive these last 3 weeks.
There was only 10 of us in the talent show. I was the only person singing a solo, but there was pianists, a flute duet, an alto viola, a solo violin, a band, a group of girls that sang Big Yellow Taxi in French and 3 girls who did a sketch/song for one of the animatuers which was frigging hilarious!!!! I got a friend of mine to take a video and I took some pics off my roommates camera, so I have pictures to upload!!
Tonight there is a Tex-Mex party/dance and tomorrow it is Louisiana themed. I also am going whale watching tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! (I’m kind of excited. Can you tell?)
So I am very happy and a lot less homesick. I told myself that it was useless to be sad because I’m here until August 9th, so I might as well enjoy myself. That and if I was home all I’d be is working and doing chores, not whale watching and what not.
